From being President Obama’s personal intern to working in a field station for the Department of Forestry, an internship with the government can take a variety of forms. Internships in government offer students a unique opportunity to work up close with the country’s largest employer – the United State Government.


 


Internships with the government come in all shapes and sizes. Many governmental departments offer internship traditional summer internships, oftentimes that can lead to full-time hiring and placement. Other program focus on semester internships, particularly in the Washington, DC area. Lastly, some internships combine on the job experience with specialized training. For example, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers a two-year, post-grad internship for students interested in pursuing medicine and business.
